Rollercoaster Ride

The Dramatic Structure

I'm sure you all have seen something like this during your writing journey. But Really? What the hell does this mean?  It looks like a pretty intense rollercoaster if you'd ask me.  Well, in a sense, that's exactly what it is, a rollercoaster ride of intense emotional and physical action.  Though there are loads of writing structures, the key is to engage the reader. Period.

When was the last time you've been on a rollercoaster ride?

  1. Right now! ahah...my characters and story have derailed. Yup. I'm stumped. Need a break from that rollercoaster, I guess.

  2. When I just started writing novels, it took me a while to gather momentum. Nowadays, I do things a bit differently, so my characters get flung on a roller coaster at the earliest possible opportunity.

  3. Funny that I've never made that connection between the dramatic structure and a roller coaster.

Last time I was on a roller coaster was, wow, a long time ago. I was in college, I think it was 1999.

  4. I'm at the bottom right now. I guess that means I can only go up, right?

  5. Right now, I'm a little bit over the middle, heading straight to the last crisis. And I'm freaking out. I keep thinking I suck and can't do this anymore, but that's normal, right?? ;)

Best of luck with your rollercoaster!

Hi Tony, I haven't been on a real roller coaster in a very long time.

  7. I hadn't thought of plot structure like a roller coaster, but I guess it is! I'm still trying to figure out how to use one of these diagrams...maybe a roller coaster ride would help???
