Writing Scene by Scene

I sometimes feel like an alien when discussing scenes to friends in story-writing. Scenes tend to be commonly referred to in motion picture rather than in the writing of books. When I write, I focus on scenes--ten to be exact. There are romantic scenes, fighting scenes, suspenseful scenes, each with similar goals—moving the story and characters forward, and distinct in their purpose and style.

Scene writing makes it easier for me to write without thinking of the whole context of the story.  That part comes afterwards.  It helps me clear my throat, if you will, and start the juices flowing.  Eventually everything connects.  When I edit, I edit scenes, not chapters, as well.  It may not work for everyone, but it works for me.  So far.
